LEGAZPI CITY — OWWA Regional Office V recently held the annual “OFW Family Day” last December 8, 2018 at the Albay Astrodome, this city. In an interview with OWWA Regional Director Samuel Madrid, the goal of the event is for overseas Filipino workers to spend less time on work and more time for their family, especially now that they have returned home. Madrid also added that the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Association (OWWA), with members numbering around 206,000 for the Bicol Region alone, offers various services and programs to OFWs and their families.

‘Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am/Sir!’ (SPIMS) Program

The event also recognizes OFW-LET passers by providing teaching kits to aid OFW-Teachers in their profession here after working abroad. Madrid also stated that OWWA provides opportunities to OFWs pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and continue their profession here.

Among those who where given teaching kits were Jayrone Gutierrez, Grecel Perea and Girlie David, all thankful for the support and opportunities given by OWWA.

Madrid further stated that OWWA does not only offer the SPIMS Program for teachers but also gives out scholarships, training, and other reintegration programs for OFWs and their families through business and other opportunities, upgrading of seafarers and other services that benefit the overall quality of life of OFWs and their families.
