NAGA CITY — Typhoon ‘Tisoy’ (Kammuri) may have damaged a lot more than just houses and power lines.

In a recent talk with an insider in PLDT, who wished to remain anonymous, its main infrastructure in parts of Camarines Sur, particularly in the Rinconada area, Albay and Sorsogon were severely damaged by ‘Tisoy’ with repairs now on its 3rd week as of posting.

‘Tisoy’s’ winds brought down majority of the poles of the telco, which hold the main fiber distribution lines in the areas affected.

PLDT offers various FTTX or Fiber to the ‘X’ internet to homes and businesses in the region.

As of posting, parts of Baao & Iriga have been restored, with majority of the lines in Albay and Sorsogon are still down, where ‘Tisoy’ brought the most damage.

Naga City was not directly hit, thus majority of the lines and connectivity are still up, with only a certain number of areas still without connectivity

The insider also discussed why the repair is taking so long. He said that all efforts of the repair and restoration team are currently focused on these heavily damaged areas, with priority to the main fiber distribution lines.

If there are still areas without internet and landline connectivity, these are already on queue after repair teams have restored the main fiber lines.
